A
Tour of the Geocoder:
To see how the Scan/US
Geocoder is organized, click on the
thumbnails listed below. A brief
description of each step is also
provided. |
When you
launch the Scan/US Batch Geocoder, you
see a window that describes what the
Geocoder will do and how you use it. If
you just need to geocode a single
location, use "Quickfind..." to get
access to a "1-up" geocoding utility. |
Next, we
specify the file to geocode. Using
browsing features that are familiar to
any Windows user, you can select DBF and
delimited ASCII files for processing. A
copy of the original file will be stored
as a backup. |
Next, you
specify how geocoding will be processed,
including address and ZIP Code
tolerances. You also specify the
addition of output fields for
standardized addresses and ZIP code
data. In the case of re-procesessing a
file, you can also specify whether to
skip records already geocoded in a
previous pass. |
Next, we
link specific fields from the input file
to input tags the Geocoder will use to
identify and process address-related
data. You highlight the input field,
then click on the corresponding input
tag to identify the appropriate data.
Fields will automatically be linked by
the Geocoder when certain field name
criteria is met. |
Next, you
designate fields which will contain the
geocoded output, primarily latitude and
longitude coordinate fields. Typically,
these fields will be added and linked by
the Geocoder automatically, and you
won't have to link the fields yourself,
unless you want to. |
The file is
now ready for processing! With an
optimized file (sorted by ZIP Code), you
will see geocoding at record speed, with
hundreds of addresses processed every
second! |
